Designing a New Sustainability Platform to Help Reduce the NHL’s Ecological Impact
The NHL determined that its Clubs’ venue operations comprise approximately 70% of the League’s overall carbon footprint, how to mitigate the environmental impact leveraging data from all clubs is critical
We collaborated with NHL to create a data dashboard called NHL Venue Metrics. This allows the league and clubs to view collected data in a meaningful way and make informed decisions on the environmental footprint across various areas, including energy, water, waste, and recycling.
The home page lays out an overview and highlights the most critical KPIs across different areas for the league, where users can navigate to each area for more detailed insights.
The drill-down pages give users more control to filter the data. It allows users to switch between different categories, e.g. Electricity vs. Gas, and switch to the like-minded clubs view for more rational comparison.
NHL has also collaborated with SAP on creating the data collection and data validation App, streamlining the data visualization process. With data input from 32 NHL clubs, the Venue Metrics is also scaled to users across these teams, making NHL more aligned on their sustainability progress and making it easer to make strategic actions.
